Single-Family Residence
Designed to capture light and frame nature, this sunroom addition reimagines the relationship between the home and its surroundings. Our clients envisioned a space that would reconnect them with the outdoors—a light-filled retreat for quiet reading, relaxation, and taking in the surrounding landscape. The resulting sunroom addition extends gracefully from the existing home, carefully nestled within its heavily wooded setting to create a sense of immersion in nature.
The structure’s elevated roofline reaches upward, drawing in abundant natural light while framing expansive views toward the rear of the property. This vertical lift not only enhances the spatial experience but also strengthens the visual connection to the tree canopy beyond.
A seamless material palette reinforces the dialogue between interior and exterior. Brazilian black slate flooring flows uninterrupted from the sunroom to the outdoor terrace, blurring the boundary between inside and out. Above, stained tongue-and-groove planks line the ceiling and continue outward to the exterior soffits, further unifying the architectural language.
At the heart of the space, a suspended metal fireplace serves as both a functional heat source and a sculptural focal point. Its modern orb form commands attention, introducing a bold yet refined contrast to the room’s natural textures.
