River Hill

This renovation reimagines the primary bedroom and bathroom of an existing rural home, transforming the bath into a calm, wellness-oriented environment while improving its relationship to the bedroom, weight room and existing closet. The project focused on enhancing the layout and introducing materials that feel grounded in, and complementary to, the character of the original house.

The updated primary bath was designed to support a more restorative daily routine, incorporating a larger indoor shower, a soaking tub, a sauna and a new outdoor shower. Careful attention was given to circulation and adjacency, allowing for a natural flow between the indoor shower, sauna, and outdoor shower while working within the home’s sloped ceilings and unique character.

Material choices reinforce a strong connection to nature. A custom walnut vanity, crafted from a single slab with book-matched grain, anchors the space, while a light, restrained palette and natural wood accents create a quiet, zen-like atmosphere. Large windows at the soaking tub draw in natural light and views, further blurring the boundary between indoors and out. The result is a cohesive primary suite that balances function, wellness, and a deep connection to its rural setting.
